Delyth is one of our brilliant surf instructors and brings a whole bunch of sunny energy to our surf team. She grew up in North Wales and studied Zoology at Manchester University before joining our surf academy. Delyth has also worked as a surf coach in Sri Lanka. A relative newcomer to surfing, she is an expert in fast-track improvement.

“I had my first surf lesson in Costa Rica when I was living out there on placement as part of my degree. It was a defining moment.

“I remember thinking ‘this is incredible, I have to do this again’. I remember how happy I was in the water, what a great coach I had – thanks Jonathan – and how much I just loved the whole experience.

“It lit a kind of determination in me. I knew I had to surf again”.

“After graduating from university, I returned home to North Wales. I had heard about Adventure Parc Snowdonia, which by then had been open for about a year. I was really excited to get down there, and even more so when I managed to get a job. I started work as part of the bookings team in August 2016.

“One of the many perks of working here is that you get access to staff surf sessions. That was just amazing. I used every opportunity I could to get on the waves. I progressed from the beginner wave to the advanced in just about two months.

“In 2017 I took a year out and went to live in Australia. I spent a year living in Byron Bay, working in a hostel and practising my surfing. When I returned to the UK in 2018, I took my ISA surf instructor qualification. I was lucky to be offered the opportunity to join the surf coach team here soon afterwards.

“To me one of the most satisfying parts of the job is helping our surfers to progress. Whether you’re an absolute beginner or a really experienced surfer, there are always improvements to be made, manoeuvres to practise, new things to achieve.

“But the best part of my job is just watching people have a brilliant time. Nothing beats helping someone to catch a wave for the very first time, and seeing the pure joy on their face. It might sound cheesy, but making people happy is without doubt the best part of my job.

“When you surf, you can’t help but be in the moment. All your focus and concentration is on catching that wave. For me, it’s the ultimate kind of mindfulness. I can’t think of a better way to unwind and relax, and as a coach it’s great to be able to share that feeling. I love it.”
